Hello and welcome back to Tea & Oranges! I am so excited to share this particular piece with you all today, as it is our very first piece of poetry being published! The goal of Tea & Oranges remains the same each newsletter; to highlight and showcase young Canadian talent, as well as build a community around enjoying and engaging with simple pleasures, such as prose or poetry. To be able to share these pieces so far have been an honour, I cannot wait for you all to see the talents being shared! Our very first piece of poetry is written by Montréal based writer, Dahlia Mandel. Dahlia’s poem has an effortless beauty to it that has just been mesmerizing to read. I read it as a simple, yet powerful piece on love, admiration, and most of all yearning. It illustrates the beautiful and heart wrenching experience that only love can bring about. I hope you all enjoy this piece as much as I do, and I am so ecstatic to share Dahlia’s poem with you all! Anna, Editor-In-Chief
You’re so pretty That the words ethereal and effervescent Tell stories about you behind closed doors, And the Aurora Borealis Closes her eyes and hopes to dream of yours. You’re so pretty That snowflakes and scenic views Argue over who gets to dance with you first And the moon prays to touch your hand, Just once or she may burst. You’re so pretty That raindrops on roses Paint pictures inspired by the colours in your eyes And the sunset compares your aesthetic To that of the sunrise. You’re so pretty That birds and blossoms Compose symphonies in your honour, And the whispers of the wind Carry tales of you to every corner. You’re so pretty That seashells and stars Glisten with envy as you pass by, And the deep, endless ocean Wishes to reflect your sky. You’re so pretty That the pages of poetry unfold Eager to embrace your flame, And as pen meets paper in the middle of the night All that I can think of is your name.
